How to Secure Pop-Up Shops or “Protecting your retail investment with temporary property security solutions”
How to Secure Pop-Up Shops, protecting your retail investment with temporary property security solutions from Property Security Group Limited
“Miniature
pop-ups are so affordable that any budding retail entrepreneur can test out
selling direct for the first time. For
those with established online businesses, pop-up shops provide a fantastic
opportunity to test out physical retailing, engaging customers in person,
testing the feasibility of opening a permanent location.

writes:
Over recent years, pop-up shops have gone from a novelty
used only by a small number of independent retailers to being a regular popular
feature on our UK retail landscape, extremely popular with both shoppers and
retailers.
Established brands, major retailers, and A-list celebs are joining
the growing band of smaller entrepreneurs in utilising this great opportunity.
Pop-up stores are temporary retail plots that can sell any
type of product that you can think of. The types of products they sell is
limitless.
And, there are specialist services like Pop Up Shops (https://www.popupshops.com/en) who
facilitate connecting retailers with landlords.
But, when you have your store, how do you secure the
property out-of-working hours?
Pop-up shops usually last from anywhere from a week up to a
couple of months. However, even with the benefits of opening a shop for only a short
term comes ever present threats, in terms of property security.
One pop up shop that I worked with, was broken into through
the front doors on the very first night of trading. It is bad enough that pop
ups have to deal with shoplifters, but they do not need their stock stolen into
the bargain.
In this particular instance, the retailer had the foresight
to have Property Security Group Limited install a temporary intruder detection
system and alarm, with visual verification cameras.
Property Security Group’s temporary intruder alarms are
monitored 24/7 out-of-working hours by a monitoring station, so on activation
of one of the PIR cameras, a video of the intrusion will be sent to a
controller, verified within seconds and a key holder or alarm response company
despatched to site.
In the event that that the controller can verify a “crime in progress”, then Police will also be advised.
In the meantime, they will activate a 110db Siren with
flashing strobe light instantaneously for a duration of 2min. This can be
repeated if intruders remain in the store – though, in practice, all but the
hardened criminal will leave the property immediately.
In this break-in, PSG controllers called the local SIA-accredited
security keyholder company who despatched guards to site. Because the camera
identified that there were burglars in the store, they called Police and
activated the in-store siren.
Between them, the guards and Police detained two intruders,
one of whom was out on licence from jail so was despatched back to serve out
his sentence.
